VAMPIRES
The pages you are about to enter present information, news, literature, entertainment and more pertaining to the vampire genre relating to the aspects of fiction, roleplay, folklore, history and real life.
This is one of my favorite subjects to read about and discuss and I hope after reading you will get a new “taste” for the fascinating information about Vampires.
Since the beginning of time legends of vampires have existed. The Vampire, unlike other “monsters”, has its roots in nearly every part of the world. From Ancient Greece to modern Day, the Vampire has been eternally preying on our imagination, forcing us to ask ourselves whether those things we dismiss as myths are just that…or more.
Vampires are mythological or folkloric beings that are unfamously known for feeding on human blood and in some cases may prey on animals. It’s hard to make one definitive description of the folkloreic Vampire as there are several elements common to many legends. The typical reports are pale skin, often has blood seeping from the mouth and nose… Clothing often consists of what they were buried in and teeth hair and nails have grown somewhat.
Attributes vary from culture to culture. Legends found in Transylvania, Vampires are pale and have long fingernails, while Bulgarian Vampires only had one nostril and Bavarian Vampires slept with thumbs crossed and one eye open. Moravian Vampires only attacked victims naked and then there’s the Vampires of Albanian folklore where it’s said they wore high heeled shoes.
Stories of Vampires spread throughout the world and the images of them got stranger and more monstrous along the way. For instance, the Mexican Vampires have a bare skull instead of a head. Brazilian Vampires had furry feet and Vampires from the Rocky Mountains only sucked blood with their noses from the victim’s ears. As time went on, works of literature such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the influences of historical figures such as Vlad Tepes, the Vampire was developed into the stereotype we perceive today; a selection of more common reported attributes from a huge variety of ancient and medieval stories have come together to form a contemporary vampire profile as seen in literature and film today.
